See the difference when competition is prevelant in the software industry. I find it amusing that even with only two real contributors/competitors in the virtualization market, Microsoft and VMWare, they have both released amazing products for free.

What other industry would do this?.
Maybe we as software consumers are a fickle bunch and have no loyalty to anybody. As long as its great software and well priced we will move between vendors without a care in the world, thus keeping the major players on their toes and ready for any opportunity.
Virtualization is an amazing concept/product in itself and it is truly revolutionising the way developers/IT Pros are working on a day to day basis. The people who work in designing and building virtual server/pc and vmware are extrodinary people and I take my hat off to them.
Thanks to the Marketing department at Microsoft and VMWare for providing these products free to the community. Somehow, I don’t think they were doing this out of the goodness of their heart………you know…….giving back to the community. Suffocating the competition through product saturation is more likely the cause
